Day 9 - Friday I found myself thankful for time alone with my husband! It may not have been an evening out on the town...but we always enjoy spending time in simple ways! We had time to shop at the mall and buy Christian gifts for his confirmation. We even had time for a quiet dinner before we headed home...simple things...the things you learn to appreciate when you lose them for a while! Walking in the mall was something I was unable to do for quite a while!
Day 10 - I find today I can not choose just one thing to be thankful for. Today I am thankful for my son, Joe and my DIL, Cat. They opened their home for us to share with friends and family to celebrate Christian's confirmation! Thank you for being gracious hosts! We greatly appreciated everything!
The other thing I am thankful for is the generosity of others! Len and I went out this afternoon to do some Christmas shopping. In our travels we came upon a business friend we had not seen since I became ill. We had an opportunity to catch up and we shared the info of our foundation. She inquired as to what exactly the foundation was doing. When we shared info about some of the people battling this disease she inquired about one in particular and emphatically said I want a Christmas list. She wants to make a Christmas for a family battling cancer...not one or two things...but the list! Not just the "needs" but the wants...as she put it..Frivolous! She made me PROMISE to bring the list to her. She is going to help ease the pain of a mother suffering from cancer. While pain from cancer can be unbearable, the pain a mother experiences when her own illness interferes with the things she wants to do for her child is unfathomable! I know this pain first hand and is part of the reason I work at this foundation with such intensity! No mother wants to put herself before her children!! But when you are mom and a cancer patient the choice is taken away from you!
So today I am thankful for many things...my own family and the friends that become family! If you allow it to happen, people will surprise you with their goodness!!
Thank you Fran..you touched me today and reinforced my belief in people! Thank you to all the people who help us ease the burden of those families battling this so unfair disease and give them some hope...day by day!!
